California License to Carry a Concealed Weapon
California's CCW is the most procedurally complex license we train for. The coursework can begin online; the license itself is granted county by county.

Delaware Handgun Qualified Purchaser Permit
This is a purchase permit, not a carry license. Delaware requires a Handgun Qualified Purchaser Permit to buy a handgun, and the permit requires a firearms training course.

Florida Concealed Weapon or Firearm License
Florida issues to nonresidents, administers licensing through a single state agency, and lets you complete the classroom portion online. That combination is why it comes up so often as a second license.

Wyoming residents can complete the training online with no range session. The permit's real value is what happens when you leave Wyoming.
CFP detailsA note on “online.” Where we say a state requires no live fire, we mean the training requirement can be completed online. No state issues the permit itself online — every one of these still involves an application to a government agency, a background check and a decision, and most involve fingerprinting as well.
Multi-state permit strategy
Your permit works until it doesn't.
Most people get one license, look at a reciprocity map once, and consider the question closed. Then the map changes, or they drive somewhere it never covered.
Start with a simpler question than “which permit is best?” Ask where you actually go. The Florida trip every winter. The in-laws two states over. The client you drive to see. The states you only pass through on the way.
Recognition is a decision each of those states makes about your credential, and they revise it. Being licensed by a state directly is a different arrangement — it doesn't depend on that state continuing to honor someone else's license.
Nobody needs a wallet full of permits. But it's worth knowing what yours actually covers before you find out the hard way.
Does my home permit cover everywhere I drive?
Only where it's recognized — and pass-through states count. Recognition changes through legislation and agency decisions, without notifying you.
Can I get a permit from a state I don't live in?
In several states, yes. Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Washington and Texas all issue to nonresidents, and California accepts nonresident applications under specific conditions.
Is a second permit just more states on a map?
No. That's the part people miss. Some statutory provisions turn on which state issued your license, not on whether a state recognizes someone else's.
Do I need to travel there to get one?
Depends on the state. Florida doesn't require it. Texas effectively does, because of who's allowed to run your range qualification.

We help leadership think clearly about preparedness: recognizing concerning behavior, identifying weak points, defining volunteer roles, and deciding what actually fits your congregation's convictions and culture. Some churches need a plan. Some need a trained team. Most need to start the conversation properly.

Four things we won't do.
Most of what separates good firearms instruction from bad is what the instructor refuses to do.
Sell you fear
There are real reasons to train and real gaps in most people's understanding. Those are enough. We don't need to invent a threat.
Rush you through a minimum
A statutory minimum is a floor, not a target. If you need more time on something, you get more time on it.
Overstate what a course does
Coursework is not a license. Every state page on this site spells out exactly where our part ends and the government's begins.
Hand out an unearned certificate
Standards are standards. That's not a comment on beginners — new shooters are exactly who private instruction is built for, and the fundamentals are part of the session.
