Ohio's license is a resident credential with a live-fire requirement, so it is not a candidate for a travel-coverage strategy from out of state. For Ohio residents, the value is straightforward: a license still governs where and how you may carry in a number of situations, and it functions as a recognized credential when you travel.

The administrative wrinkle worth knowing: Ohio does not keep a statewide registry of certified firearms instructors. Verification happens at the county sheriff's office when you file. That puts the burden on you to keep clean documentation of your training and your instructor's credentials.

Practically, that means completing the classroom online is efficient — but you should confirm with your sheriff's office what documentation they expect before your range session, not after.
